Sproat Lake

Sproat Lake is one of the greatest natural treasures on Vancouver Island – a place world renowned for its natural beauty. The four armed lake offers 140km of largely forested lakeshore, with some of British Columbia’s most beautiful fresh water beaches. The warm waters are so clear that swimmers and boaters can easily see thirty feet down. The 70+ degree (21 Celsius) summer waters help make Sproat Lake an unmatched recreational paradise.

Sproat Lake has four arms: Stirling Arm; Klehkoot Arm; Two-Rivers Arm; and Taylor Arm. Each arm is unique. Stirling Arm is inhabited on one shore and largely uninhabited on the other shore, which enjoys Fossli Provincial Park. Klehkoot Arm is the most bustling arm on Sproat Lake, and enjoys the Sproat Lake Provincial Park. Two-Rivers Arm is accessible only by unpaved road and its well sheltered shores remain sparsely inhabited. Taylor Arm is by far the longest arm of Sproat Lake, and its marginally colder waters are home to Taylor Arm Provincial Park. Taylor Arm is sparsely inhabited with recreational properties.

During the hot dry summer season, the giant Martin Mars water bombers can be seen using the lake as both runway and reservoir when combatting forest fires elsewhere in the province. Measuring 120 feet with a wingspan of 200 feet, these amazing water bombers are the largest in the world. They are a true Sproat Lake icon.
